The next Big Play Starts with Under 10 Basketball in St. John’s
First dribbles become smarter plays in our Under 10 basketball team. Created for children ages 8 to 10, this program brings footwork, ball handling, shooting, passing, defence and gameplay together in a more structured but still upbeat setting.
Players are encouraged to try new skills, make decisions on the court and work as a team. Effort and improvement matter far more than being the best player in the gym.
New to basketball? Come take your shot. Beginners receive the same encouragement, opportunities and support as returning players.

More Game, Still Plenty of Play
Under 10 group is the oldest age group in the Rising Stars NL basketball lineup. Returning players can build on skills introduced in Little Stars and Under 8, while beginners can start their journey in a welcoming environment.
Sessions introduce more structure, movement and gameplay without taking away the reason children want to play in the first place: fun.
Players leave the gym proud of what they tried, excited about what they learned and ready to come back for another Saturday.

Control the Ball, Build the Skill
Players develop greater control while dribbling, passing, shooting and handling the ball. Fun, age-appropriate drills help them practise proper techniques and use their skills with growing confidence.
Fast Feet Make Smart Moves
Activities introduce basketball-specific footwork and movement, including balance, changing direction, defensive positioning and moving with or without the ball.
Each skill is taught step by step, giving players time to practise, improve and find their rhythm.
From Practice to Play
More gameplay and team situations give children opportunities to apply what they have learned. Players practise making decisions, communicating with teammates and understanding how their role contributes to the game.
Confidence Belongs on Every Team
Basketball teaches more than technical skills. Players are encouraged to listen to their coaches, support their teammates, try their best and show good sportsmanship.
Winning feels good, but effort, growth and the courage to try again are always worth celebrating.
Beginners Get a Place in the Starting Lineup
Your child does not need to complete Little Stars or Under 8 before joining. Coaches work with different experience levels and help new players feel comfortable from their first session.
Every child receives opportunities to learn, participate and enjoy the game. No one needs to arrive knowing every move. That is what practice is for.
The Skills Grow, but Fun Still Leads
Under 10 introduces more footwork, techniques and gameplay, but fun remains at the heart of every session. The goal is for children to leave the court feeling good about what they accomplished and already looking forward to the following week. A stronger pass is progress. A supportive teammate is a win. A child asking to come back is the real slam dunk.
